Two Reasons This Election Year is Different!

IT IS A RARE AND EXTREMLY IMPORTANT (TO PRO-LIFE) STATE SENATE ELECTION YEAR
There are no statewide offices up for election this year, and as there are every two years the federal and state House of Representatives is up for grabs. However, the state senate is up for election in 2012, and given this only happens every 4 years, and given the senate is much less dependably pro-life, the KS state senate races, most but not all in the primary between Republicans, are definitely THE most important races there are in 2012!  Last time they ran, in 2008, some incumbents were recipients of political donations by late-term abortionist George Tiller and then-Gov. Kathleen Sebelius and it showed in their pro-abortion votes.

SOME DISTRICT LINES WILL MOVE

Every ten years, Kansas redraws the lines of the U.S. House, State Senate and State House of Representatives districts based on population increases, decreases and shifts, and 2012 is one of those years. An agreement on the maps must take place in the Kansas Legislature for this to take place. THIS year the legislature didn’t agree which has forced the issue into court.
For now, and if the courts decide on new maps in a timely fashion, all dates will stay as originally planned with the primary election slated for Tuesday, Aug. 7th and all registration and advance voting application deadlines and dates tied to that date unchanged.
On the other hand, If the map redo takes too long, some things could change so watch the news or check this website for updates on this unprecedented situation.
ASSUME THE ORIGINAL DATES AND DEADLINE APPLY
To be on the safe side, assume the election and all deadlines tied to it will remain as is, unless you hear different, and go ahead and register or update your registration if needed, and/or apply for an advance ballot to be mailed to you prior to the election–all of which can be done with forms found at the election tab at the Secretary of State’s website at www.kssos.org.
ENDORSEMENTS SO FAR:
Kansans for Life PAC will wait until after the candidate filing deadline, slated now for June 11, to do most endorsements, but has already announced those belowbecause of their importance this year.  However, a change in the maps could affect even one or two of those endorsements if one or more of the candidates ends up being drawn out of their current district.  Any reconsiderations due to the map issue will be announced here plus emailed to KFL members. Advance Voting Application

In Kansas, anyone can vote starting up to 20 days in advance, but you have to apply for the advance ballot, and you have to do it for each election (unless you are sick or disabled and have been granted permanent advance ballot status.) Those who apply will get a ballot mailed to their home. If you apply between now July 18, you should get your ballot by July 21. If you apply after that, they will mail it right away so that you can get it back in time, but deadlines apply.
